Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the Cascade Trail Maps beta mobile app and the Cascade Trail Maps website at cascadetrailmaps.com. Cascade Trail Maps is a proposed trail-navigation and personal track-recording app for Central Oregon winter trail users.

Our approach

Cascade Trail Maps is designed to work primarily on your device. Your recorded tracks, downloaded map packages, and app preferences are stored locally on the device unless you choose to share or export them in a future version of the app.

Location information

The app asks for location permission only when you choose to use location features. With permission, your device location may be used to show your position on the map, keep the map centered while you move, and record a personal track when recording is active.

Your live location and recorded tracks are not sent to the Cascade Trail Maps server as part of the current beta. You can turn location off in the app. Deleting the app or deleting a saved track removes locally stored track data from that device.

Offline maps and map downloads

After installation, the app offers a downloadable offline map package. When the app checks for or downloads a map package, our server may receive standard technical request information, such as IP address, device or browser details, request time, and the requested file. This information is used to operate, secure, and troubleshoot map delivery. It is not used to build location histories or sell advertising audiences.

Website and beta access requests

If you submit a beta-access form, we collect the information you provide, such as your name and email address, to manage invitations and communicate about the beta. The website may also collect standard server logs and cookies needed for security, site administration, and the functioning of WordPress and its installed services.

How we use information

  • Provide and improve the beta app, website, and offline map downloads.
  • Respond to beta requests, feedback, and support questions.
  • Protect the services from misuse, errors, and security issues.
  • Meet legal obligations when required.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use your device location or locally recorded tracks for advertising.

Sharing and service providers

We may use hosting, website, email, and app-distribution providers to operate this beta. Those providers may process limited information as needed to provide their services. Google Play independently processes information when you install or use an Android test build from Google Play, under Google’s own privacy policies.

Data retention

Beta-access submissions and operational logs are retained only as long as reasonably needed for the beta, support, security, and recordkeeping. Data stored only on your device remains there until you delete it, delete the relevant track, or remove the app.

Children and emergency use

Cascade Trail Maps is not directed to children under 13. The beta app is not an emergency-navigation service; always use appropriate preparation, judgment, and safety resources for outdoor travel.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the beta evolves. The current version and effective date will always be posted on this page.
